Oracle Cloud EPM Consolidation and Close – Changing the prompts for On-Demand rules

For Oracle Cloud EPM Consolidation and Close, if you have created an on-demand rule you may have noticed that by default on-demand rules have 2 additional prompts compared to consolidation rules.  These are Currency and Consolidation.

Consolidation rules looks like this:

On-demand rules look like this (Currency and Consolidation need to be selected too):

This default behaviour can be changed. For example, if your on-demand rule should always run for FCCS_Entity Input (so run for base level entities only and then parents should consolidate like normal), you can input FCCS_Entity Input as the default value for the Consolidation member.

At the bottom of the on-demand rules, you have the Variables section and here defaults can be set. Below “FCCS_Entity Input” has been input in the Value box.

Once the rule is deployed, you now see “FCCS_Entity Input” as the default member when you go to run the on-demand rule. This encourages users to pick the right member, by defaulting it for them.

Of course, they would definitely pick the right member if it was selected as the default and also hidden from being changed! Luckily, that is also an option too. In the below example, “FCCS-Entity Input” is in the value box and the Is Hidden option has been ticked too.

Now once deployed, a Consolidation prompt no longer shows when you go to run the rule. Even if you trust your users to pick the right member, doing this makes life easier for them. It also removes any unnecessary error and saves them the task of checking the member.

This can be done for any of the 6 dimensions. It can be particularly handy for rules that should only ever run for level 0 Entity members or a particular Scenario.

A simple but efficient way to ensure that users pick the right members in on-demand rules!

Until next time
