Summarising Oracle Cloud EPM IPM Insights using GenAI
As part of the Oracle Cloud EPM April 2025 patch, Oracle released functionality in the IPM insights area, which uses Generative AI to summarise a subset of insights, based on parent values. This can be achieved in two ways:
- Sparse Parent POV Summary – Summarised based on parent levels for sparse dimensions, e.g. Entity/Product.
- Multi-Account Summary – Option to summarise for a Parent account, for a single POV
Note! Summary definitions are always for a single insight type at a time, i.e. Anomaly OR Prediction OR Forecast & Bias.
Before we get started, make sure you’ve ticked the Generative AI setting under Settings -> Enable AI, otherwise the summary text can’t be generated:
Sparse Parent POV Summary
The first option is to summarise insights based on a sparse parent, for example across multiple Entities and/or Products. This can be done by selecting multiple insights which are the same type and are for the same account, but different sparse members, and then selecting Summarize from the action menu. Enter a name for the summary and select the insight type – note we can only summarise one insight type at a time.
In the example below, we have selected two Forecast Variance & Bias insights which are for the same Account (Contract Revenue – Cost Plus) but different Project Elements (Line 1 & Line 2) and we want to summarise for all Line items.
The summaries are always based on the direct parent for a dimension, so one of the blue boxes must contain a parent member. In our example, we want to summarise for all Line items, so we will select the “OPF_Line Items” parent.
Press Run to initialise the summary, which will then be visible on the Summary tab on the horizontal menu. In our FM IT Line example, the summary has collated information across all Lines and found there are insights for both Line 1 & Line 2, as below:
Multi-Account Summary
If you select multiple insights with the same POV, which cover a range of Accounts, then it will allow you to select a parent account which will pick up any insights the children of the selected Account.
For example below, I’ve selected multiple Anomaly insights for Sales US in Nov FY22, which are across multiple accounts:
Using the Summarize action, we then enter a name and select the insight type, which in this case is Anomaly – note again we can only summarise one insight type at a time.
We can then select a parent Account to summarise by. This could be a base parent account e.g. Gross Profit would summarise Revenue and COS insights, or a shared hierarchy.
My recommendation would be to add an “IPM Insights Accounts” shared hierarchy with all the accounts you’d want to summarise and then select that parent account for summaries, as below:
Press Run to initialise the summary, which will then be visible on the Summary tab on the horizontal menu. In our Sales US example, the summary has found multiple anomalies across different accounts, and summarised them into a list:
